Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
The Class-3 signing token required for every MCA, income tax, GST, tender and trademark filing.
What this is
A Digital Signature Certificate is a cryptographic credential issued by a licensed certifying authority that binds your identity to a signing key held on a secure USB token. Under the Information Technology Act a document signed with it carries the same legal effect as a handwritten signature.
Class-3 is the level required for company filings on the MCA V3 portal, for income tax and GST where digital signing is mandatory, for e-tendering, and for trademark and patent filings. Lower classes are no longer issued for these purposes.
Issuance requires video KYC and Aadhaar or PAN-based verification, and the certificate is delivered on a FIPS-compliant USB token that cannot be copied.

What happens if you do not do this
There is no penalty for not holding a DSC; the consequence is that you cannot file. A more serious risk is misuse: a DSC token handed to someone else can be used to sign filings in your name, and you remain legally responsible for them.
Never share the token or its PIN, including with your consultant. We never ask for it.
What comes after
A DSC is valid for two or three years and must be renewed before expiry. An expired DSC cannot sign, and a filing deadline that falls after expiry becomes an emergency.
We record the issue and expiry date of every director's DSC against the entity and remind you sixty days before it lapses.
Questions people actually ask
Which class of DSC do I need?
Class-3. It is the only class now issued for MCA, income tax, GST, e-tendering and trademark filings. If someone offers you a cheaper "Class-2", it will not work for these.
How long is a DSC valid?
Two or three years, at your choice. Three years costs slightly more but avoids a renewal cycle, which matters if you file regularly.
Can I use one DSC for multiple companies?
Yes. A DSC identifies the person, not the company, so one director's DSC can sign for every company they are a director of.
Do I have to appear in person?
No. Video KYC is done remotely from your own phone, and the token is couriered to you.
Should I give my DSC token to my consultant?
No. Anything signed with your token is legally your signature, and you carry the consequences. A reputable professional will ask you to sign, not ask for your token. We never request it.
What happens if I lose the token?
The certificate should be revoked immediately and a fresh one obtained. The certificate cannot be recovered from a lost token, and it cannot be copied off one.
